Hello and welcome! Teaching piano is my passion. My aim is to connect my students to the music they love in a very enjoyable way while maintaining disciplined progress in the fundamentals. I teach both group and private lessons. Both have their unique advantages listed under my teaching method section below.

Teaching Methods

Group Lessons

After a decade of one on one instruction, I branched out into teaching group lessons and found that most kids learn a whole lot faster and have way more fun along the way. It has been such an exciting and educational journey for the last 6 years developing my group curriculum and I continue to see that this format serves many students well, keeps children engaged and cultivates a deeper understanding and love for the piano.

Children between the ages of 7-18, attend a one hour group session once per week at my home studio, located in Arlington, Washington. Group lessons are not offered to adults at this time.

Advantages of group lessons: are they right for your child?

Small three student group format often allows for faster learning through:

I offer intro to music classes for toddlers ages 3–6 and group piano lessons for students 7 and up.

Private Lessons

Private lessons are offered to adults and children ages 7 and up. Advantages of private lessons include:

A quieter and more focused learning environment
Ideal for those who are self managed
Ideal for those who are interested in a more standard classical teaching style
A shorter lesson time to accommodate busy schedules with the same potential for progress as group lessons

Students in both formats benefit from regular opportunities for 1:1 engagement as well as creative means to learn. Both are encouraged to:

Enjoy and learn pieces from genres of their own choosing
Improvise and compose
Collaborate with other musicians playing different instruments
Move to the fast track option when ready to become fluent readers of music

I am 70 years old and have been taking lessons for 2 years now. Although I am not a particularly good student, Meena is a great teacher. She is a stickler for detail, smart, intelligent, and very patient with me in my frustration and she even tolerates my sarcastic sense of humor. She knows her stuff!

Group Lessons (ages 7+)

Weekly 1-hour group lessons with up to 3 students

Tuition

Tuition is $140 per student per month.
An annual $35 materials fee is due at the beginning of the school year per family (not per student).
Tuition is due on the last lesson day of the month to pay for the upcoming month. For example, October's tuition would be due on your last lesson day in September.
Tuition is a flat rate and does not fluctuate based on number of lesson days, recital season changes, vacation time, holiday breaks, illness etc. Missed lessons can be made up for both private and group lessons.

Required Books

I use a variety of materials and methods with my students depending on their goals, schedules and preferences.

Private Lessons (all ages)

Weekly 1:1 lessons starting at 30 minutes

Tuition

$200 per month for 30 minutes
$300 per month for 45 minutes
$400 per month for 1 hour
All ages including adults are welcome!
Tuition is due on the last lesson day of the month to pay for the upcoming month. For example, October's tuition would be due on your last lesson day in September.

Required Books

We will discuss various options for you at the first lesson, but all the resources I use are listed on my resources page.

Policies

🤧 Illness policy

Please keep in mind the policy for the music studio is more conservative than a school. If your child has a productive cough and/or a constant runny nose, please reschedule. If your child has had any flu related symptoms within the last week, please reschedule. I teach in my home and ask this to respect my own family's health as well as the other students in the group class. Thank you.

🎹 Make Up Policy

One make up lesson is offered per month for cancellations made for any reason. If I have to cancel for any reason, I will offer an additional make up slot. Please use Calendly to schedule.

Important: if you need more than one spot because of multiple children, each spot has to be individually reserved.

🌞 Summer Schedule and Options

Summer participation or a holding fee for two months (July and August) is required to maintain your spot for the fall. I try and offer as many options as possible to accommodate families.
